Der Pfälzer Wald ist das größte zusammenhängende Waldgebiet Deutschlands und lädt auf zahlreichen Wanderwegen zu ausgedehnten Touren oder Waldspaziergängen ein..

 

Seit 1992 ist das 179.000 Hektar große Gebiet als 12. deutsches Biosphärenreservat von der UNESCO anerkannt. Damit ist der Pfälzerwald ein wichtiger Baustein für die Erhaltung der biologischen Vielfalt und nachhaltige Nutzung der natürlichen Ressourcen der Erde. 

Artenreiche Wälder, sonnige Wiesentäler, mächtige Felsentürme und sagenumwobene Burgruinen machen den Pfälzer Wald in Deutschland einzigartig.

Rund 70 Prozent der Bäume bestehen aus Nadelhölzern. Die Kiefer ist hier am stärksten vertreten, da Sie mit den Sandböden des Buntsandsteins sehr gut harmoniert. Besonders sehenswert sind auch die Edelkastanienwälder am Fuß des Pfälzerwalds zur Weinstraße hin. Eine Vielzahl wildlebender Tiere und wildwachsender Pflanzen finden im Pfälzer Wald entsprechende Lebensräume.

Bei uns an der Deutschen Weinstraße machen die Weinberge, Obst- und Mandelbäume und der kastanienreiche Waldrand den ganz besonderen Reiz aus. Das hier herrschende milde Klima begünstigt zudem auch das Wachstum von Feigen, Kiwis und Edelkastanien. Die hier angesiedelten Weinorte besitzen sehr reizvolle Ortsbilder, in denen es viel zu entdecken und erkunden gibt.

Zahlreiche Burgen und Burgruinen belegen, dass dieses Gebiet im Mittelalter eine zentrale Rolle des Heiligen Römischen Reiches spielte. Einen Besuch lohnt auch das historisch wichtige Hambacher Schloss, welches im Mittelalter als Burg erbaut wurde und in der Neuzeit als Schloss ausgestaltete wurde. Seit dem Hambacher Fest 1932 gilt das Hambacher Schloss als Sinnbewegung der deutschen Demokratie.
